Dr. Christopher Thornberg has been called many things throughout his career, but his favorite thing to be called is correct. He founded Beacon Economics in 2007 and the firm quickly made a name for itself as the only major forecast on the West Coast to correctly predict the collapse of the sub-prime real estate bubble and the global recession that followed. More correct calls followed, including predicting the rapid V shaped recovery from the pandemic and the subsequent surge in inflation. Under Dr. Thornberg’s leadership, Beacon Economics has become one of the most respected research organizations in California producing economic forecasts, impact analyses, policy studies, and regional economic analysis for private industry, public agencies, and nonprofits.

With a career rooted in academia, Dr. Thornberg holds a Ph.D. in Business Economics from the Anderson School at UCLA, where he later taught in the MBA program and served as a senior economist with the Anderson Forecast. As a thought-leader and dynamic public speaker, Dr. Thornberg speaks in front of tens of thousands of people every year, urging audiences to ask the right economic questions before accepting pervasive social and political narratives.

Over the past 17 years, Gene Deering has completed over 1,150 transactions valued at more than $1.6 billion, working in tandem with fellow Radius partners Bob Tuler and Paul Gamberdella. In fact, in 2022 the team completed 26 sales and 67 leases involving more than 640,000 sq. ft. and valued at more than $295 million, putting them atop the commercial leasing and sales leaderboard on the South Coast. A former college athlete, Gene’s unrivaled energy and leadership skills propelled him to the role of Senior Vice President in 2017, then Principal in 2018. Prior to joining Radius, Gene began his career working for CB Richard Ellis in 2004.

Mike Lopus joined Radius in 2021 in association with Steve Golis in his market-leading multi-family practice. Prior to Radius, Mike specialized in the acquisition and disposition of multi-family and commercial investment properties throughout California’s highly competitive San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento regions. Since starting his career in 2013, he has brokered numerous sale and lease transactions across a variety of property types including multi-family, medical, hospitality and retail.

Now in his eighth year at Radius, Justin Diem has unlocked a diverse range of professional skills that deliver unique value to his clients, team, and the community. While at Radius Justin has worked on over $700 Million of commercial sales and leases on the Central Coast. This robust market exposure has honed Justin’s expertise in all asset classes, providing him with a nuanced perspective on the local economy. Through his experience in tenant and landlord representation, property valuation, contract negotiation, drone photography, volunteering, and a passion for community success, Justin sees a future of endless involvement and progress for the Santa Barbara region.

Since joining Radius in 2002, Brad Frohling has completed more than $900 Million in local commercial real estate sale and lease transactions, specializing in the retail, office, development, and industrial sectors in the South Coast. Brad entered into commercial brokerage in 2000, representing a group of private investors and completing several off-market transactions that resulted in excellent returns in the Santa Barbara area. Prior to that he was instrumental in managing the Eastern United States for Oakley Corporation, where he helped grow his sales division from $8 million in sales to $16.5 million in just three years and launched new product lines including footwear, outerwear and optical products.
