The Santa Barbara Volkswagen dealership at 630 Chapala St. plans to close, according to Gene Deering of Radius Commercial Real Estate.
While the owners did not specify when it is closing or what would replace it, the 13,600-square-foot space would be well suited for another car dealership, Deering said. The asking rate is $2.50 per square foot.
“The parking provided by this single level retail/office building is rare for all of downtown Santa Barbara,” Deering told the Business Times. “With everything happening on Chapala, this property should command interest from a variety of tenants.”
The dealership is surrounded by some sweeping changes on Chapala Street, including a mixed-use development at 414 Chapala St. that will add 22 residential units and about 1,400 square feet of commercial space.
